Cloud-Bearing Mountain is an Orthodox Christian spiritual retreat center located in Moriah, New York where the wild and majestic Adirondack Mountains meet the stunning, culturally rich Lake Champlain Valley. We are easily accessed from the Albany, NY area and Montreal, QB, Canada. New York City is about 5 hours to the south; Boston, MA is about 4 hours to the east; Rochester, NY 4.5 hours to the west; and Montreal about 2 hours to the north.

Built in the 1940s for German settlers working the area’s iron mines, our log chalet style Christian retreat house is situated on a 206 acre farmstead backed by tens of thousands of acres of wilderness lands. Guests find that our daily schedule of silent (contemplative) prayer and sung prayer services—combined with our peaceful grounds, farm animals, and home-cooked meals—makes for a revitalizing, soul-mending Christian retreat. If you are local to us, consider visiting us for Sunday and other services. We are home to Saint Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church, a mission of the ROCOR Western Rite Communities. We look to the faith of Orthodox Europe before Rome’s split from the undivided Church. Uniquely situated at Cloud-Bearing Mountain Christian Retreat Center, attending services here is a rare and rejuvenating experience. We meet for Divine Liturgy (Mass) on Sundays at 10 am and enjoy dinner and discussion after. Visitors are welcome. Because Fr. James sometimes has to be away, from time to time church services are not held on Sunday. We suggest that you contact us before visiting.
