Our heartfelt congratulations to Tara, who has just been received as a catechumen into Christ’s one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church here at Saint Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church / Cloud-Bearing Mountain Retreat. Tara has now begun a period of guided formation and education, and will be baptized and chrismated at a future date. She comes to us from a lifetime in the Roman Catholic Church after having discovered the beauty and faithfulness of Holy Orthodoxy during a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
We were also recently blessed by a visit from Fr. John and his family from Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY, as well as by Eme (Mother) Menet Emahoy Woletta Selassie-Black. Eme Woletta is an Ethiopian Orthodox nun who is founding a hermitage / monastery here in the Catskill Mountains. We hope that she will be a frequent visitor here, and in any case we were honored by her presence last week.
Finally, God willing, Dr. Bill Hill will be baptized and chrismated into the Orthodox Church here on Sunday June 25, at 10 am. Visitors are welcome to attend and witness this joyful occasion. A meal will follow the liturgy. Dr. Hill has pastored many churches in his long and fruitful lifetime, but has “saved the best for last.” Having discovered Orthodoxy on a retreat here, Bill soon became a catechumen and will now enter into Christ’s body, the Church, as a communicant.
