And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1:14.
Composed by Saint Athanasius in the fourth century, On the Incarnation boldly proclaims the Christian theological vision articulated at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea. Highly influential on all Christian theological reflection thereafter, this work is essential reading for all who seek a deeper appreciation of the Christian faith. Topics covered will include an historical and theological background to the Council, and hence to the work at hand, and a biographical sketch of the author’s life. We will read and discuss selected passages from the book, focusing especially on the work’s fundamentally contemplative character, most especially in its weighty understanding of salvation and the ultimate end of the Christian life. Participants have the option to attend this program in person or online through Zoom. $40 suggested donation. Pre-registration is required as far in advance as possible.
