New Year’s Silent Prayer Retreat

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Romans 13:12.

Time quickly passes; let us seek God while he wills to be found. This silent prayer retreat provides an alternative and uplifting New Year’s celebration. The silent prayer retreat is at the heart of the contemplative training on offer at Cloud-Bearing Mountain. Participants enter into a deep and regenerative silence, spending many hours together each day engaging the practice of still prayer (Christian meditation). This is punctuated by the chanting of the psalms at morning, noon, and evening prayer services, and a daily period of silent work helps us to carry our prayer into everyday activities. All participants have an opportunity to receive individual spiritual direction during the retreat. This silent retreat culminates in the New Year’s Program, including the New Year's Eve Midnight Mass for Healing and Peace, and New Year's brunch. See below for details.

The secular holiday of New Year’s is a time when we reflect as a culture on the past and make resolutions for the future. Despite these intentions, just about everything about New Year’s and our celebrations of it seem to distract us from our purpose. Cloud-Bearing Mountain invites you to enter 2022 with wakefulness and purpose, and to seek God while he wills to be found. This program provides an alternative and uplifting New Year’s celebration. Pledge to live 2022 in the love of Christ. 9:00 pm: silent prayer; 10:30 pm: New Year’s Mass, reception and New Year’s toast following. Jan 1, 8:30 am: Lauds; 10:00 am: New Year’s Brunch.
